In Lewis County, NY 126 runs southward along the east bank of the Black River before turning eastward. It intersects NY 410 at Naumberg and ends in the Village of Croghan at NY 812, its eastern terminus.

[edit] History

An alternate routing of NY 26 between Lowville and Carthage via Croghan was designated as New York State Route 26A in the 1930 renumbering.[4] The route remained intact up to the early 1980s when it was replaced with NY 812 from Lowville to Croghan and NY 126 from Croghan to Carthage.[2][3] NY 126 was then extended westward over a previously unnumbered roadway to its present terminus at NY 12 in Watertown.[3]
