New York State Circuit Courts
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The New York State Circuit Courts were circuit courts created by the New York State Constitutional Convention of 1821. Until then, under the provisions of the Constitution of New York, 1777, the Justices of the New York State Supreme Court had been holding travelling circuit courts. There was one Circuit Court in each of the eight senatorial election districts.
The Circuit Courts were first established in April 1823, and the first eight Circuit Judges were Ogden Edwards, Samuel R. Betts, William Alexander Duer, Reuben H. Walworth, Nathan Williams, Samuel Nelson, Enos Throop and William B. Rochester.
