The New York Knights (also known as simply the Knights) are a semi-professional rugby league club located in New York in the United States. The team plays in the American National Rugby League competition and have to date claimed a sole Championship title in the 2002 season. The side often provides several players to the USA national side each year so far providing nine full American internationals and one Japanese[4].

The club was founded in 1997 and entered the American National Rugby League competition for its inaugural season the following year in 1998. Since then the club has gone on to become one of the strongest clubs in the AMNRL more often than not qualifying for the playoffs each year. In 2006 the Knights would perform strongly in the regular season and then go on to beat the New Haven Warriors in week one of the playoff series; however they would eventually lose 54 - 6 in week two to eventual Champions the Connecticut Wildcats.

[edit] Uniform & Colors

For their inaugural American National Rugby League season the club adopted the colors of white, red and blue but the uniforms are predominatly blue[5], part of the reason for this color scheme came down to the clubs affiliate partnership the club has with Australian National Rugby League team the Newcastle Knights who use similar uniform colors. For the 2006 and 2007 seasons the clubs major jersey sponsor is Guinness[6].

[edit] Stadium

The Knights currently use the Pier 40, Hudson River Park Stadium located on the Hudson River in New York[7] as their home ground and they will do the same for the 2007 season. The Stadium is often referred to as The Castle because of the architecture and surrounding river, give the park a Castle like appearance[8].

The Stadium currently seats several thousand and over the 2005 off-season underwent renovation work to update the ground including the installation of artificial turf meaning it is the only AMNRL venue with this type of turf.[9].

The Stadium is also used for soccer fixtures.
