New World Religion, is the idea of a secular religion, that brings together a common agreed upon world view. This would provide a synthetic foundation upon which more global decision making can occur and some would say a world government would be founded.
A widely held Christian viewpoint is that such a world religion would represent the Antichrist.
From a New Age perspective, it is often believed that world unity in thought and action is desirable.
[edit] Objections
The objections to the "synthesis is better" point of view can be broken into three sections:
- Arguments for diversity and against a homogenized society.
- Arguments from a spiritual perspective voicing objections to the spiritual powers that stand behind such a synthesis.
- Arguments supporting National identity.
[edit] Example
Many conservatives and Christians believe that the proposed Earth Charter may represent the beginnings of a New World Religion.[citation needed]
