New University

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The New University is the weekly student newspaper at the University of California, Irvine. Published every Monday during the school year, it has a circulation of 10,000. The New University was started in 1968, and it was the fourth school newspaper at UCI, following Spectrum (1965-1966), Tongue (1966), and Anthill (1966-1968). The New University began as a leftist political publication, but it now covers campus and local news and events in a largely apolitical way. The paper features five sections: news, opinion, features, entertainment and sports. The news section has notably covered the Danish cartoon controversy on campus while the opinion section routinely deals with the clash between Jewish and Muslim students on campus. The paper is independent from the school as it collects all revenue through advertising.
