From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The New South Wales Government Railways (NSWGR) was the government department that operated the New South Wales Government's railways until the establishment of the Public Transport Commission in 1972. It was sometimes called the New South Wales Railways.
The NSWGR built all of their track to the 4 ft 8½ in (1,435 mm) standard gauge.
The NSWGR ran their first train in 1855 from Sydney Terminal to Parramatta (now Granville).
