New Rhodes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
British indie-pop four-piece New Rhodes formed in Bristol in 2001 and moved east to London. Though technically unsigned, they have put out three singles through Moshi Moshi, the label behind Hot Chip, Tom Vek and Architecture in Helsinki.
Their influences include The Smiths, The Strokes, The Cure and The Velvet Underground. The band is regularly tour the UK and in addition to headlining they have supported the likes of Razorlight, The Dears, Delays, Hope of the States, The Killers, and The Futureheads and also completed a full UK tour as support for Bloc Party.
New Rhodes' debut single, "I Wish I Was You", released in July 2004 on Moshi Moshi. It charted in the Top 75 (and number 7 in the Indie Charts). The follow-up single "You've Given Me Something That I Can't Give Back" made the top 40, charting at number 38. It is not, as is commonly thought, about a Sexually Transmitted Infection. Since then "From The Beginning" and "The History of Britain" have also been released as singles. "The History Of Britain" is not actually about the History of the United Kingdom, and nor is "From The Beginning".
The four members are:
- James Williams - Guitar/Vox
- Joe Gascoigne - Guitar (Brother of Ronnie George!)
- Jack Ashdown - Bass
- Tim Desmond- Drums
The current line-up was finalised in the summer of 2006 after Tim became the fourth permanent drummer.
The band's debut album, Songs from the Lodge was released on the 23rd October 2006 through Salty Cat Records. They have recently finished writing their second album.
In March 2008 the band released sample's of new songs, all of which are expected to be released on their new album. [1]
