[edit] Church History
The New Psalmist Church of God in Christ was founded at 2128 Tudor Ave, East St. Louis, Illinois by Elder James Heard Jr. It moved to 3500 Falling Springs Rd. in Cahokia, Illinois in 1991. After 11 years of pastoring, Heard died on June 25, 2000 and was replaced by his son, James Heard, III, who has continued his father's work with the assistance of Pastor Jacques Hughes.
In December 2001 Pastor Heard acquired a new church facility at 303 W. Fourth St. in Cahokia. The church was completely remodeled with most of the work being performed by the church members.
In August, 2005 the church was demolished by fire that destroyed two-thirds of the amenities, necessitating a move to 3921 Mississippi Ave. in Cahokia, and construction has begun on a future church at 535 State Route 3, Cahokia, Illinois.
