New Music Distribution Services (or NMDS) was a record distributor based in New York City from the late 1960s until the mid-80s. It grew out of the activities of the Jazz Composer's Orchestra (JCOA). NMDS company distributed not only JCOA-related releases, but albums by independent labels of varying sizes and nationalities.
In the United States these included Nodlew (Weldon Irvine's label), Jahari (Richard Dunbar's label), Gibex (Michael William Gilbert's label), Philip Glass's Chatham Square label, and many others. Several international labels such as Ictus and ECM were also included in their catalogs.
The distributor eventually collapsed due to financial problems.
