New Leaf Academy is a private boarding school enrolling girls ages 10 to 14, with campuses in Hendersonville, North Carolina [1] and Bend, Oregon [2]. The school is operated by the Aspen Education Group.
The school's program is intended to meet the special needs of girls experiencing emotional or behavioral problems. Girls attend year-round, typically for 18 to 24 months, before returning to regular schools. The school's behavior modification program consists of three levels called StarStep, which is based on the work of the German developmental psychologist and psychoanalyst Erik Homburger Erikson (1902 - 1994).[3]
The Oregon campus is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. It is a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP).[citation needed]
The North Carolina campus, which was established in 2005, is accredited by the North Carolina Non-Public Schools Association and is in the progress of being licensed for special education through the state Department of Public Education's Special Needs Division.[citation needed]
