Route 159 is a state highway in the U.S. state of New Jersey, United States. It is a loop of U.S. Route 46 that extends 1.36 miles, between Montville Township and Fairfield, in Essex County. The road was part of U.S. Route 46 before that highway was rerouted.

[edit] Route description

Route 159 begins at its western terminus where Bloomfield Avenue intersects U.S. Route 46.[1] It follows Bloomfield Avenue, a four-lane divided highway, for about half a mile, taking it into Fairfield before it reaches the western terminus of County Route 506. There, County Route 506 follows Bloomfield Avenue into Newark, New Jersey, while Route 159 veers to the east following Oak Road and Clinton Road back to U.S. Route 46.[1]

Route 159 originated in 1941 as New Jersey Route 6M. The route was changed to 159 in the 1953 renumbering. [2]
