New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission

The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is the governmental agency responsible for registering and inspecting automobiles and licensing drivers in the U.S. state of New Jersey.

The Commission is comprised of eight members, four of whom are appointed by the Governor. Laurette Asante, Grissele Camacho-Pagan and Stephen Scaturro are three of the four gubernatorial appointments. There is currently a vacancy. Three cabinet members also serve on the Commission on an ex officio basis: the New Jersey Attorney General, the State Treasurer and the Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation.^[1]

The eighth position is reserved for the Chief Administrator of MVC, who also serves as the Chair of the Commission. Sharon Anne Harrington is Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC). She was first appointed in March 2004 and reappointed by Governor Jon S. Corzine in January 2006. She directs nearly 3,000 employees at 80 locations throughout the state. Ms. Harrington is the fourth woman, and 21st individual, to lead the organization in its 100 years of existence. Ms. Harrington presently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Region 1 Board of Directors of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA).
