New Hamburg is a community of approximately 7,000 in Wilmot Township, a rural township of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, Ontario. It is bordered by Baden to the east and Perth County to the west, and is within easy driving distance of the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Stratford. Wilmot's mayor at this time is Wayne Roth.

Notable sports teams include The New Hamburg Firebirds (Jr.C), The New Hamburg Huskies (omha-BB).

The Nith River flows through the downtown, which is home to a 50-foot waterwheel built in 1990 and billed as the largest operating waterwheel in North America. In August, New Hamburg hosts the annual Moparfest, the largest Mopar/AMC event in Canada. The Ontario Mennonite Relief Sale is held at the arena and fairgrounds each year on the last Saturday of May, and the New Hamburg Fall Fair runs annually in September. New Hamburgers celebrate each Christmas season with an annual Gingerbread Festival, won in 2007 in various categories by Sherry Miller of Stratford, Kitchener-Conestoga MP Harold Albrecht, and with an entry that stunned the competition, Cathy Williams' Grade 4 class from Forest Glen. The weekly newspaper serving the community is the New Hamburg Independent.

Notable retail outlets include an LCBO, The Beer Store that accepts empty beverage containers, a full-service KFC, a Tim Hortons, and various independently-owned family businesses. As of October 2007, New Hamburg has welcomed a Subway to its downtown core. The old retail district is located on Peel Street, but in recent years the regional highway 7/8 has become a retail force to be reckoned with.

New Hamburg's green spaces include Scott Park and the Arboretum, both located within the town limits.

Primary schools within the town include Forest Glen Public School, Grandview Public School, and Holy Family Catholic School. Interestingly, there are no high schools in New Hamburg, and aspiring students must travel to the nearby town of Baden to seek further education.

Key community groups in New Hamburg include the New Hamburg Board of Trade, the Optimist Club, Lions Club, and Lioness Club.
