NewTV

NewTV is an independent, non-profit corporation created in 1991 to receive funding from the city of Newton, Massachusetts, designated for a public-education-government (PEG) cable access TV corporation to operate PEG services in Newton. NewTV is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

NewTV is is also the "nickname" for the Newton Communications Access Center (NCAC) - the public access, educational and governmental access TV studio and computer resource center in Newton, Massachusetts.

[edit] Who can use NewTV?

Residents of the City of Newton, members of Newton-based non-profit organizations, employees of Newton businesses, and City of Newton employees are eligible to use NewTV. This includes free use of TV production equipment and facilities, cable TV channel time, and training in TV production, media literacy, and Internet access. Anyone wishing to use NewTV facilities must become a member of NewTV, for a small annual fee.

All persons, firms, corporations, businesses, organizations, institutions, and other entities in the City of Newton who subscribe to the purpose of the Newton Communications Access Center, Inc. (NCAC), and who support the Corporation by participation, or with a contribution of money, service or equipment, shall be eligible for membership in the Corporation.

NewTV operates three separate television channels, each designated for either public, educational, or governmental content.

NewTV Blue features all public access programs, which consist of video programming and other electronic information produced, directed, and engineered by community volunteers. The programming is developed or acquired by nonprofit community groups, neighborhood organizations, social service agencies, and individual citizens. It focuses on many aspects of community life, ranging from the services and activities of community organizations to the opinions and beliefs of individuals in the community.

NewTV Red showcases government access programming, which is created or acquired by local government employees, elected officials, and volunteers. It typically focuses on information about services provided by local, State, and regional governments, issues faced by local governments, and public meeting coverage.

NewTV Green cablecasts educational access shows, which are developed or acquired by school or college employees, students, and school volunteers. It typically focuses on distance learning, school activities, and information that the school/college wants to get out to the community or share among schools.
