State Route 3A was the former designation for SR 773 and the southern 25 miles of SR 264. It originated at the California state line south of Coaldale and ran north through Fish Lake Valley to its junction with SR 15 (now US 6).
It was commissioned in 1933. The route underwent no significant changes until the southern 25 miles became part of SR 264 in a 1978 statewide highway renumbering. The northern 10 miles became an unnumbered road until it was assigned SR 773 in 1991.
