Talk Page Policy (stolen from Snowspinner and The Epopt)
I archive when I feel like it. Depending on my whim, your comments may or may not be archived. The odds of not being archived are inversely proportional to the amount you annoy me. Please do not annoy me.

Please do not post any requests for help in fighting other Wikipedians here. I'm on the Arbitration Committee, so I'm not going to get involved in liberating you from oppression directly—if I did, I'd have to recuse myself when your case was addressed by the committee. Post your tales of woe somewhere else. On the other hand, if someone does post a request here, please leave it alone. This is my talk page; I'll clean it up if I want it cleaned up. Fight your edit wars on another battlefield.

Requests for help in research, article-writing, peer reviewing, FAC comments, and editing are always welcome, of course. If I don't respond to you right away, I'm not ignoring you; I'm just doing something else or didn't see your comment on the page. Thank you! --Ben

[edit] Douglas MacArthur

The Douglas MacArthur article received heavy editing today by new/unregistered users, which I noticed at WikiRage.com. According to Wikipedia Page History Statistics, you are one of the top Git -R- Done contributors to that page. If you think your efforts to improve that article would be aided if new and unregistered users were blocked from editing that article, please let me know and I will protect the article. Thanks. -- Jreferee (Talk) 08:19, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:BBC Children in Need logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:BBC Children in Need logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:52, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Taiwan_Firecrest.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Taiwan_Firecrest.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 22:27, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:John_Geddes_Lawrence_and_Tyron_Garner.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:John_Geddes_Lawrence_and_Tyron_Garner.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 01:21, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] TrueOrigin Archive AfD

Hi - I was wondering if you might consider rescinding your AfD on TrueOrigin Archive? It had only been up for two minutes before you AfD'd it; no one even got a chance to discuss it on the Talk page, there wasn't even time for a {{notability}} tag or a {{NPOV}} tag or an ANYTHING tag, so that it might be resolved in Talk. As it is, the AfD page has now become the article's Talk page, and the discussion is centering on why this was done after two minutes instead of giving it enough time to be discussed on the Talk page.

I'm not saying the article shouldn't be deleted. Maybe it should, if there's consensus for that. But shouldn't WP editors be given the chance to work on the article first?

Thanks for your time. --profg 03:21, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vermont state seal.png

Hello Neutrality. Source image on the image Vermont state seal.png is faulty and does not appear to be the source of the colorized Great Seal of Vermont you have uploaded. The image on the state dpeartment web page does not correlate, and is not the official Great Seal of Vermont. This can be confirmed by visting either http://www.sec.state.vt.us/kids/emblems.html or http://www.libraries.vermont.gov/www/html/emblems.html

MickMaguire and I have been through this a couple times. A user named Avala, has been using he unoffical version again. Would you consider taking the image down? [edit] Speedy deletion of Bodies of water

A tag has been placed on Bodies of water requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Huckabee

The Eugene Fields subsection was too much information, undue weight. I summarized it thus: "NBC News reported that in December 2004, Huckabee granted clemency to Eugene Fields over the objections of a law enforcement officials.[78] Fields, of Van Buren, Arkansas, was convicted on his fourth charge of driving while intoxicated (DWI) in August 2001. It has been suggested by some Arkansas Republicans that Huckabee's clemency was linked to political contributions. The Huckabee campaign stated only that "there was no connection between the handling of any clemency application and any political donation."[78]" Jmegill (talk) 03:17, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Colorized representation of Great Seal of Vermont

Hi Neutrality. The color version of Vermont's seal is not official and does not correlate to any versions of Vermont's official seals authorized by either the Vermont General Assembly or the Secretary of State of Vermont. The current description history cites a link to a U.S. Government site but has clearly been redrawn and colorized and is not the artwork being cites as source. The color seal depicted on that federal government site is not official either. The colorful version is clearly a well-intentioned effort to bring color to what is admitedly a colorless seal. But alteration of the seal must originate with the Vermont General Assembly.

As this illustration has caused confusion regarding Vermont's official great seal I am seeking its removal from wikipedia. If you are not the author of it might you know who is? Thank you. CApitol3 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 15:13, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Dennis_Kucinich_as_Mayor_of_Cleveland.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dennis_Kucinich_as_Mayor_of_Cleveland.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

[edit] Speedy deletion of Template:Government terrorist group designation

A tag has been placed on Template:Government terrorist group designation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 05:49, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Accenture logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Accenture logo.png.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:58, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Cocaine Anonymous logo.JPG. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Nader Hawaii campaign button.JPG

Thank you for uploading Image:Nader Hawaii campaign button.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:58, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Featured article review/United States Bill of Rights

I noticed the article on the Bill of Rights has an {{unreferencedsection}} template in it; possibly, the paragraph immediately following this template may need additional inline citations.

It may turn out that such citations are not necessary; on the other hand, detailed citations assist in guarding against copyright violations, so I think that discussion should be part of a formal featured article review, for which I have nominated the article. Please discuss here.

By the way, I like your username.

[edit] copy editing

I discovered a typo in the article, in the "amendments" section, under the First Amendment: it should say "peaceably to assemble" or just "right of assembly," not "tp peaceably assemble" [and, in passing, I might note that were I to decide to register, I still (as I understand it) would have to wait before I would have the ability to correct the mistake myself]. 69.140.152.55 (talk) 20:16, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Query on page move

Hello. When you moved Arab World to Arab world, were you aware of the previously determined consensus at Talk:Arab world#Capitalization - "Arab World" rather than "Arab world"? As I generally follow "1RR" for the edits of fellow admins, I am not undoing your move, however you should probably say something on the article's talk page so that the move does not appear to be an arbitrary one.

In the interests of full disclosure, I pretty much only have the article watch-listed because it is a frequent target of the many socks -see Cat:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Mariam83- of banned editor Mariam83 (talk · contribs). I do not otherwise pay a lot of attention to, or care passionately what the article is named. Thanks, Kralizec! (talk) 02:38, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:National_Do_Not_Call_Registry_Logo.bmp

Thanks for uploading Image:National_Do_Not_Call_Registry_Logo.bmp. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:18, 31 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 20:18, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

You recently filed a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page Monarch to a different title - however your proposal is either incomplete or has been contested as being controversial. As a result, it has been moved to the incomplete and contested proposals section. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.

Please make sure you have completed all three of the following:

  1. Added {{move|NewName}} at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article. This creates the required template for you there.
  2. Added {{subst:RMtalk|NewName|reason for move}} to the bottom of the talk page of the page you want to be moved, to automatically create a discussion section there.
  3. Added {{subst:RMlink|PageName|NewName|reason for move}} to the top of today's section here.

If you need any further guidance, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves or contact me on my talk page. - JPG-GR (talk) 06:28, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
