User talk:Nettyboo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi Nettyboo, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions to the coolest online encyclopedia I know of =). I sure hope you stick around; we're always in need of more people to create new articles and improve the ones we already have. You'll probably find it easiest to start with a tutorial of how the wikipedia works, and you can test stuff for yourself in the sandbox. When you're contributing, you'll probably find the manual of style to be helpful, and you'll also want to remember a couple important guidelines. First, write from a neutral point of view, second, be bold in editing pages, and third, use wikiquette. Those are probably the most important ones, and you can take a look at some others at the policies and guidelines page. You might also be interested in how to write a great article and possibly adding some images to your articles.

Be sure to get involved in the community – you can contact me at my talk page if you have any questions, and you can check out the village pump, where lots of wikipedians hang out and discuss things. If you're looking for something to do, check out the community portal. And whenever you ask a question or post something on a talk page, be sure to sign your name by typing ~~~~.

Again, welcome! It's great to have you. Happy editing! --Spangineer (háblame) 16:02, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Tmartin.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Tmartin.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Richard_e_grant.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Richard_e_grant.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you have questions about copyright tagging of images, post on Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags or User talk:Carnildo/images. 13:15, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Jlumley.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Jlumley.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Regarding my actions

If you want to complain about me, there is no stopping you. However, like I said before, take a look at the section "How not to be a spammer" in WP:SPAM. In particular: "Contribute cited text, not bare links" and "Don't gratuitously set off our spam radar". As it is clear you are a registered user, please also edit logged in. Otherwise one sees (like I did) an IP user whose edits, with few exceptions, consist of linking a site, and not actually contributing. That tends to scream "SPAM!" so loud it is deafening.--Drat (Talk) 01:20, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Laughterlog.com

The information on this site can be either included in Wikipedia, or can be found elsewhere, so external links to the site aren't really appropriate in this case. HawkerTyphoon 15:09, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

You cannot simply copy other sites and put them in Wikipedia, so it is relevant to link to them instead. Nettyboo 15:21, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
You're right there, but you can take the information from them and rephrase it in your own words :-) HawkerTyphoon 15:23, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
The information I am linking to is discographies, radio lists, television lists, episode guides, etc, etc. You can't rephrase a list. It isn't fair to deny that information to researchers.  ;-) Nettyboo 15:27, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Most of it is already on IMDB.com, and if it's only a list, it can easily be placed on Wikipedia and the list isn't copyrighted. Although we can leave the links in I suppose:P Happy eediting! HawkerTyphoon 15:31, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Thank you. Live long and prosper. Nettyboo 15:32, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
