Nettlebridge ST648484 is a hamlet in the Mendip Hills on the A367 (The Fosse Way) between Oakhill and Stratton-on-the-Fosse, Somerset, England.
The area has a history of coal mining, since the 13th century in the area as part of Somerset coalfield but all pits have now closed.[1]
Very close to the village is the ancient Harridge Wood which is in the care of the Somerset Wildlife Trust. It comprises five sites with a total area of 54ha (133 acres). It forms a major element of the Mells Valley Prime Biodiversity Area.[2]
Hillside House is a grade II listed building.[3] Hillside House, a former pub, has not been split into two and the entire house is occupied by one owner.
The site of the current Nettlebridge House was formerly 2 cottages, with an attached workshop formerly used as a brewery and stocking factory. All were owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, as were the majority of the houses in Nettlebridge. One of the cottage was demolished in 1965. The former stocking factory was converted to be an occasional part of the main house in 2004, when the property was bought for £430,000. After partial development the property was sold at auction for £375,000 in 2007. It is currently for sale at £900,000.[4]. There is an active spring under the Kitchen floor.
