Neshaminy School District serves the municipalities of Middletown Township, Langhorne, Langhorne Manor, Penndel, Hulmeville, and Lower Southampton Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Students from the Middletown divisions of Levittown also attend these schools. About 10,000 students attend public schools, and more than 1000 students attend private elementary schools, not including day care centers, and about 1500 students attend private high schools in various other areas, but are bused by Neshaminy School District. Enrollment is slowly decreasing due to an aging population in the area.
In June 2006, the Neshaminy School District started a massive renovation of Neshaminy High School, which was constructed in the late 50s. A plan for a new high school was considered for $85 million in 2003, but many residents believed a reconstructed school could be built for between $35 million and $60 million. Residents asked for and received the opportunity to vote for the new school via referendum. In April 2004, the new building referendum was defeated. The school board then decided on the major renovation project, which will end up costing around $82 million, just $3 million less than the new building proposed a few years earlier. Old wings are being demolished, and new ones will replace them. Air-conditioning will be installed throughout the entire school, and new furniture and technology will be bought. All access roads to the school and parking lots will be repaved. Also, all sport fields will be redone, and the football stadium is most likely going to be redone, as the bleachers are reaching their maximum age. When students returned to class in the fall of 2006, temporary learning trailers were called into use as renovations were just underway. [1]
