Neshaminy High School is a large public high school located on Old Lincoln Highway, in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Neshaminy High School is dedicated to providing a positive learning environment through an evolving curriculum in which all students are educated to be responsible, creative and productive citizens who have the desire for continuous learning and who acknowledge diversity. The Presidents elect of Neshaminy High School are currently Zeke Woodson, Ryan Bolton and Michael Morris.

Neshaminy High School consists of three main hall ways that run parallel to each other, with several smaller hallways crossing to connect them. The arrangement forms several courtyards, which are utilized to assist in movement between periods. Smaller Hallways branching off of the main body of the school serve as departments, arranging classes of similar types (such as math, social studies, and foreign language) in the same region of the school.

Due to previous renovation and construction projects, some redundant facilities at Neshaminy that range from old to very new. These are implemented to help compensate for immense class sizes. There are 3 gymnasiums at each of the furthest points in the school. Of it's two theaters, the older near the rear of the building is used primarily for performances by the school's drama department. The newer theater in the front of the building is used by the school's music department and outside groups for performances, and Neshaminy's annual musical

[edit] Renovation

In 2003 the Neshaminy school board proposed the demolition of the current school building and construction of a new facility on current school grounds. This plan was priced at $100 million and would require the issuance of an $85 million tax funded bond. In April 2004 residents defeated the new building plan via referendum due in large part to the price tag.[1]

As an alternative plan, the school board decided to demolish sections of the school at a time and rebuild them as the school year proceeds. This major renovation project will cost $72 million and will replace 95% of classroom facilities, but will retain existing structures like the old auditorium, gym, cafeteria, and library. Unlike the rest of the school which has only received basic upkeep since the 1950's these facilities have already undergone major renovation as recently as 1995.[1]

In June 2006, the Neshaminy School District started this renovation. While old wings are demolished and rebuilt, 16 modular classrooms have been employed to take the place of these facilities. In addition, all class rooms are being put to use for all periods, when they would have only been used for part of the school day before. Construction of these new classrooms is still ongoing with the first wing to undergo construction expected to be reopened in January of 2008. The project should be complete by September of 2009.[1]

Neshaminy High School provides a rich curriculum that includes a wide variety of honors and advanced placement courses.

There are approximately 2,400 students in grades ten through twelve. It is the only high school in the Neshaminy School District. Neshaminy High School is accredited by the Middle Atlantic States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. However, after all this is said and done, we still can not manage to pass the PSSA.

The school also has a long history of excellent extra curricular activities, which include several championship athletic teams.

[edit] Playwickian

The name "Playwickian" comes from the one of the names of the Native American tribes who called the area on the Neshaminy Creek home. The Playwickian is the high schools award-winning newspaper. The Playwickian has received countless awards from Columbia University for outstanding performance. The newspaper is distributed once a month with all the articles written by the students who choose to take the journalism course. The current adviser for the newspaper is Mrs. Tara Gould-Huber.

[edit] Suicide awareness

In October 2006, the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club at Neshaminy High School implemented a Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program. The program is designed to empower youth by giving them permission and a way to ask for help through the Yellow Ribbon card. The Neshaminy High School staff has been trained in the purpose of the Yellow Ribbon card and is prepared to assist students if necessary. Students have been given Yellow Ribbon cards to use or give to a friend with the very strong message that it is “okay to ask 4 help”. This program was implemented in the wake of the occurrence of four suicides in Neshaminy's class of 2006.

In February of 2006, the class of 2006 Student Council created the "Suicide Awareness week," including several events that included the entire student body. Many programs, such as Grieving Friends, a program meeting at various times during the academic week, were implemented and open to every student/faculty member.
