Nese Yasin

Neshe Yashin, Turkish Neşe Yaşın (b. 1959) a well known Cypriot Turkish poet and author.

A Turkish Cypriot poet who teaches at the University of Cyprus, Nicosia in the Department of Turkish and Middle Eastern Studies. Neshe was born in 1959 to Turkish Cypriot parents. A graduate of Middle East Technical University, Ankara, she read sociology.
Since mid 1980s, Neshe has been living and working in south Nicosia. She has been an active peace activist from a very young age. Neshe, who mainly writes in Turkish, has had her work translated into Greek. She has written poetry as well as articles that have been published by both Turkish and Greek language papers on both sides of the border.
Neshe has also written conference papers on peace, such as the one presented at World Conference on Culture in Stockholm in 1998. Neshe has also provided fora for various Turkish speaking women's support groups.
In 2006, she made history in Cyprus when she ran for parliament after the (Greek) Cypriot government passed a law allowing Turkish Cypriots residing in the south to vote in general elections for non Turkish Cypriot candidates. She became the first Turkish Cypriot to participate in elections since the departure of the Turkish Cypriot candidates in 1963.
