NESCafe is a Java-based Nintendo Entertainment System emulator used to play videogames on websites or as a standalone program to emulate videogames directly on the user's computer. There are two main distributions of NESCafe: standard and applet. Standard is for users who wish to run the emulator directly on their computer, applet is for those who wish to use the emulator on their website.
[edit] History
David de Niese started working on NESCafe as a project for a final year computer science project in May 2000. The first version was released in 2001.
NESCafe was the first Java-based emulator to support sound.[citation needed]
On March 11, 2008, NESCafe was shut down. At 4:37pm, March 11, 2008, David de Niese wrote the following on NES Online's Facebook Wall:
Sorry guys, I got a joint letter from the ESA and Facebook. I've been told to remove NESCafe. Thanks for all your support and I hope this site brought back some happy memories of playing the Nintendo! Game Over.
As of March 18, 2008, NESCafe is back up. But with a few changes made. The changes made are due to threats made by the ESA.
