[edit] Mission statement
On Sunday, 15 October 2006 at 1400 UTC, I decided to join Wikipedia and help in the creation of high-quality encyclopedic articles.
See also User:NerdyNSK/wikibio.
[edit] Research statement
During the last few years I undertake research on Wikipedia using a variety of methods, including virtual ethnography, flow analysis, opt-in questionnaires, and rarely breaching experiments (which are always good-hearted and do not cause disruption). The research is not expected to have any negative consequences on the subjects under investigation. Some results of the research are likely to be published after a few years at http://cosmoswiki.org/
Because the research involves only information which Wikipedians make public by their own choice on the Internet, it is concluded that there is no need to ask for permission. nevertheless on certain occasions permission or consultation with specific parties will be sought.
You can opt-out of this research at any time before the publications of the results by sending me an e-mail or a message on my talk page and asking me not to consider your article contributions and talk pages for my research. I will only need to know your Wikipedia user name or any other way of identifying your contributions on Wikipedia, so that I can filter them out.
The research takes the reputations of Wikipedians into account and will avoid popularising sensitive facts whenever this is possible.
The aims of my research are many:
- Collecting evidence on machtpolitik on Wikipedia
- Collecting evidence on governments's perceptions and relations with Wikipedia
- Analysing the tensegrital structure and the spirit of synergetics on Wikipedia
- Studying Wikipedia's orgmind
- Understanding Wikipedia's collective intelligence and searching for traces of swarm intelligence
- Observing Dunbar's number on Wikipedia
- Analysing the Wikipedia community as a complex adaptive system exhibiting emergence using the knowledge and rhetoric of the new science of plectics
- Trying to derive a Paretian optimal solution for specific Wikipedia problems
- Trying to derive and apply the Feigenbaum numbers (see Feigenbaum constants) on Wikipedia
- Finding instances of digital stigmergy (see also stigmergy)
- Simulating Wikipedia using appropriate computer models and algorithms
- Deriving mathematical models of Wikipedians's social behaviour
- Identifying how machtpolitik affects Wikipedia's intangible structure, orgmind, and collective intelligence
- Deriving prediction models for predicting the outcome of certain processes and interactions in Wikipedia (for example: "does the probability of deleting an article which contains ungrammatical sentences approaches 1 after a week from the moment of the article's creation")
- Deriving appropriate adaptation modules for tuning up the prediction methods
- Identifying the causes that make Wikipedians leave the community
- Building methodologies for making Wikipedians return to the community or for preventing their departure from Wikipedia
- Identifying the causes that make people vandalise Wikipedia
- Building methodologies for the prevention of further vandalism
- Identifying differences of Wikipedia usage and contributions among ethnic groups
The above is for my personal research, which is not supported by any third party.
The publication of the above does not necessarily exclude any other parallel research project, personal or academic, from being run on Wikipedia, with the same or different aims.
[edit] Wiki interests
Apart from fixing typos and wikifying new articles, I seek to improve our coverage on science and especially computer science. Furthermore, I care about the quality of our articles on mathematics, free/libre open-source software, and political geography.
I am also interested in helping out newcomers.

[edit] Writing style and languages
I can contribute in English and Modern Greek. I also have a grasp of French and German, but not much.
My style is based upon the modern UK style guides (eg BBC), but with some modifications of my own. My style is as follows:
- Mostly using British English
- always using the Oxford comma
- enjoying singular they
- I do not put full stops in abbreviations (I write 'et al' instead of 'et al.' , 'eg' instead of 'e.g.' , 'BSc' instead of 'B.Sc.' , 'US' instead of 'U.S.' , as well as 'Prof' instead of 'Prof.' ) - See Guardian style guide
- I use small letters with a first capital word for pronouncable acronyms, but all-capitals for unpronouncable acronyms, eg I write Nasa instead of NASA, but I write USPTO because the latter cannot be pronounced as a word. See Economist Style Guide
- I usually prefer inverted commas in quotations, but sometimes I also use double quotes.
- I use SI units
- I italicise quotations
