Nephi the Disciple

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article refers to Nephi, the author of Third Nephi, and one of the twelve disciples of Jesus. See also Nephi (disambiguation).

In the Book of Mormon, Nephi (early 1st century) was the name of the son of Nephi, son of Helaman, who was given charge over the Nephite records and other sacred things. He was the prophet during the birth and death of Christ. The Gadianton Robber's threat to murder every believer unless the signs of Christ's birth (a day and a night and a day without darkness; a bright star in the sky) came at a certain period of time. The day before the carnage Nephi prayed to God to deliver them from their enemies. Christ revealed to Nephi that he would be born into the world on the next day.

Nephi preached repentance to the very wicked Nephites between Christ's birth and death. Christ ordained him an apostle when he arrived in America.

The historicity of the story of Nephi is not generally accepted by non-Mormon historians or archaeologists.
