Nepenthes carunculata (pronounced /nəˈpɛnθiːz kəɹʌŋkjuːlɑːtə/, from Latin: caruncula, diminutive of caro = flesh; referring to appendage on seeds) is a highland Nepenthes pitcher plant species, native to Sumatra. It is very similar to N. bongso and there is much debate about whether the two should be treated as separate species.
N. carunculata has no known natural hybrids, although several species are known to hybridise with N. bongso.
[edit] Infraspecific taxa
N. carunculata var. robusta is an extreme variety of this species with a large, flared peristome.
