Nemesis is a fictional monster from the Resident Evil series of survival horror games. Nemesis is a biologically engineered creature created by the Umbrella Corporation and appeared as the title character for Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. It also appeared in the 2004 film, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, where it was portrayed by Matthew G. Taylor.
[edit] Background
Nemesis first appeared in Resident Evil 3, as the game's title character and primary antagonist. The product of years of research,[1] the Umbrella Corporation deploys Nemesis to hunt and kill all surviving members of Special Tactics and Rescue Service.[2] The game’s protagonist, Jill Valentine, encounters Nemesis outside Raccoon City’s police station, where it brutally murders Brad Vickers.[2] Nemesis continues to stalk Valentine throughout the game until she defeats it. Nemesis reprises its role in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, which retells the events of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
Following the game's debut in 1999, Nemesis became one of the most recognizable and popular characters in the Resident Evil series. Nemesis appeared in the 2004 theatrical adaption of the game, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, where it was portrayed by Matthew G. Taylor. While the film's creators used a different storyline, Nemesis still brandished its trademark rocket launcher and trench coat. Palisades Toys used his likeness to create an action figure, which was released alongside with several other Resident Evil characters and enemies.[3] Furthermore, Nemesis was featured in the 2005 Christmas edition of VG Cats, a popular webcomic.[4]
