Nels Potter

Nelson Thomas Potter (August 23, 1911 - September 30, 1999) born in Mount Morris, Illinois was a Pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals (1936), Philadelphia Athletics (1938-41 and 1948), Boston Red Sox (1941), St. Louis Browns (1943-48) and Boston Braves (1948-49).

He helped the Browns win the 1944 American League Pennant and the Braves win the 1948 National League Pennant.

He led the American League in Earned Runs Allowed (144) in 1939.

He finished 9th in voting for the 1944 American league MVP for having a 19-7 Win-Loss record, 32 Games, 29 Games Started, 16 Complete Games, 3 Shutouts, 2 Games Finished, 232 Innings Pitched, 211 Hits Allowed, 79 Runs Allowed, 73 Earned Runs Allowed, 6 Home Runs Allowed, 70 Walks Allowed, 91 Strikeouts, 1 Hit Batsmen, 4 Wild Pitches, 955 Batters Faced, 1 Balk and a 2.83 ERA.

In 12 years he had a 92-97 Win-Loss record, 349 Games, 177 games Started, 89 Complete Games, 6 Shutouts, 126 Games Finished, 22 Saves, 1,686 Innings Pitched, 1,721 Hits Allowed, 843 Runs Allowed, 748 Earned Runs Allowed, 123 Home Runs Allowed, 582 Walks Allowed, 747 Strikeouts, 21 Hit batsmen, 40 Wild Pitches, 7,248 Batters Faced, 6 Balks and a 3.99 ERA.

He died in his hometown of Mount Morris, Illinois at the age of 79.
