Nellai Express

The Nellai Express is a super fast train on the Indian Railways, connecting Tirunelveli with Chennai Egmore. The train is an overnight service.

As per the numbering system of the Indian Railways, the train has been assigned the number 2631 for the down direction (Egmore - Tirunelveli) and 2632 for the up direction (Tirunelveli - Egmore). In the downward direction, the train departs at 2100 hours and reaches Tirunelveli at 0835 hours. In the upward direction, the train departs at 1830 hours and reaches Chennai at 0600 hours.

It covers the distance of 655km in 11 hours, 30 minutes with major stoppings at Madurai, Trichy and Villupuram and terminus at Chennai Egmore/Tirunelveli Junction. It is one of the trains in India, keeping the speed and time to perfection like Pallavan Express. It is also one of the oldest commuter trains in India.It is the second most important train in Madurai Railway division- next to Pandian Express and run with maximum permissible coaches of 24.
