Nell Fortner is the current women's college basketball coach at Auburn. She is most well known for leading the 2000 Olympics team to a gold medal. As the coach of the U.S. national women's team, her overall record was 93-14(.869). For her success, she was named the 2000 USA Basketball Coach of the year.
She also served as the head coach at Purdue. Her 1997 team won the Big Ten regular season conference title going 17-11 overall, and 12-4 in conference play. That team lost in the second round in overtime, to the eventual runner-up in Old Dominion. Her efforts earned her Big Ten and National Coach of the Year honors. In the past 10 seasons, her teams have made 10 consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament, and have compiled a 152-66(.792) record during that span.
She also served as the Indiana Fever's head coach from 1999 to 2002. During that three year span, she compiled a 42-56 record. From 1991 to 1995, she was an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech, under Hall of Fame coach Leon Barmore. Louisiana Tech made tournament appearances in all 5 of her seasons, and compiled a 123-37 record.
She attended Texas where she played college basketball. As a starter she compiled a 127-26 record in her 4 seasons. She served as the head women's coach at Killeen High School, and coached at SFA. She is a member of the Texas Hall of Fame.
