[edit] Baginton Castle
Hi, it is called Baginton Castle and there was already some text about it on the Baginton page. I have found your image and edited it onto the Baginton page. Do you have any more photos of Coventry? Snowman 01:34, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Local photographs
It is good of you to offer to contribute some of your photographs to the wiki, you could look at some of the local pages (links form "Category:Coventry" or from "Coventry") and see what improvement you can make. Start with your best photographs. I find that if I take 10 photographs about (1 or less) is suitable. I do not choose pictures for the wiki that have a person on the shot whose features are recognisable even if only at high resolution. I think that it is ok if there is a car number plate on the picture as generally they are anonymous. Sometimes I have to crop the picture or use image enhancing software to get the contrast and brightness correct. I found your Baginton Castle photograph and it is on the "Baginton" page now; I could have sharpened the contrast to make it look better, but I just made a link to it on the Baginton page at the present time, to save waiting too much space on the wiki. I am very fussy about what photographs to choose. I use "Picasa" image editing software, which is a free download from Google. I would say, please rename your photographs and use a descriptive name for the image file, perhaps the "Baginton Castle" photograph would have better renamed "Baginton Castle date-it-was-taken". As long as you log-in, I will be able to find your photographs that you upload even if you do not link them into the page correctly, start with your best photographs. It might be an idea to change to a more anonymous log-in name (I think that there is a facility to change your log-in name, or use a new one), but some people use their proper names. If you get a new log-in name then please leave another message on my talk page, so that I can find your edits and pictures with your new log-in name.
There are many pictures needed. Do you have any good images of these?
- Willenhall Precinct
- More of Inside Coventry Cathedral
- The front of Cheylesmore Manor (there was a car parked outside when I went to get a photo)
- Poole meadow and the pond there
- The old Coventry Zoo in Whitley - and in particular a picture of the Zulu.
- Cannon Hill Shopping centre
- Central Six Shopping centre
- Coventry Centre Shopping precincts
- A Bendi-bus
- Ullathorne RC School
- Better pictures of Finham Park School Snowman 13:38, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:Coventry City Farm.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Coventry City Farm.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 00:06, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Images 13 Jan 2006
- Finham library - too dark, not a very interesting shot of the back of the library. I have got a better picture, so no need to get another for the wiki.
- St Michaels Church - quite good, needs straightening, I can not use this because of the children in the picture. Where is this actually?
- Stoke library - quite good, but too dark, I might work on it to increase the light fill. When the sky is bright in the back ground you need to adjust the settings.
- Coventry Farm - interesting, but the fence is too prominent. A shot from the other side of the road further back might work better. Shots inside the farm might work, or through the gaps in the fence. I am interested in an page on the farm, partly because it is closing and there is not long to get the pictures. The animals were not clearly visible. One picture might not do it, might need two or three for more.
Until you have got used to your camera, why not take a dozen shots, different distances, different angles, different light settings, different zoom, different height.
Please read the welcome message above and click on the links for information on how to use the wiki. There are some wiki basics you need to know. Snowman 00:34, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Coventry City Farm image
I have worked on your image of the farm - increased fill light, contrast boost, straightened. It is now on the Hillfields page - a new page I started. I think that image is a good picture of the gates. Some other pictures of the farm would be helpful - ? of the animals, ? of the buildings from the other side of the street, ? inside the farm. It is closing soon. Perhaps the wiki should have some more good images. Thank you for uploading the Coventry Farm picture; it inspired me to start a new page on Hillfields to include the farm. Your original image has to be deleted now to save wiki space and to tidy up the wiki, but with some digital image work a slightly modified version is on the Hillfields page. I hope that you are pleased with the start of the Hillfields page. Snowman 13:01, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:Coventry City Farm.JPG
A tag has been placed on Image:Coventry City Farm.JPG, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Snowman 14:15, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- Do not worry about the image - it has already been deleted - you can tell that because it has a red link - it was partly my fault. I like the Coventry Farm image now - it is quite colourful, the size of the gates is clear from the size of the person in it, the person can not be recognised, and it is a good picture of the gates. I have just learnt how to modify the images and maintain the file history and so that they do not need to be deleted. I have asked an administrator to help you to learn the basics of the wiki - the administrator will know more than me and used to helping new users. Generally, new uses have an administrator to help them at first. The Coventry Farm image has been deleted now, but to maintain file history could you upload it again and I will process it again, but do it correctly this time. You must add a licence tag to it so show that you are giving the copyright to the wiki, which you did not do before. If you have a problem with this just write {{PD-self}} on the image page and the image will have a public domain licence - do not include the two <nowiki>s and the angle brackets - that is just to inactivate the tag on this page. If you can not upload it with the same name then rename the image.
I have got picasa image editing software, which is a free download from google. It is quite good actually, for a small software pack. Snowman 17:23, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Baginton Castle
I have seen the new fence around Baginton Castle, as it is called, so I was grateful to see your photo of it. I think that it was your first image upload. Apparently, image names are difficult to change. It is currently called "Image:DSCF3286.JPG". In order to change the name it has to be uploaded again with a new name. Do not forget to add the copy right tag to it. Before you upload it, please change the image file name to a descriptive name like "Baginton Castle Jan2003.JPG". I will enhance it with picasa software. After this "Image:DSCF3286.JPG" can be deleted, which has be done by an administrator. The camera details of the photo say that it was taken in Jan 2003; is that correct? Snowman 18:13, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Stoke_Library.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Stoke_Library.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:30, 27 January 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigDT 21:30, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
