[edit] Early life

Neil Ronan was born in Ballyhea, County Cork in 1979. He was educated locally and later attended St. Colman's College where he won both Harty Cup and All-Ireland Colleges' titles. Ronan later studied at the Waterford Institute of Technology and won a Fitzgibbon Cup medal with the college hurling team there.

[edit] Playing career

[edit] Club

Ronan made his underage debut for his local club Ballyhea at the age of eight, and was quickly recognised as a great hurler. Although once a Senior club, presently being an intermediate club, he has enjoyed some success there.

[edit] Inter-county

Ronan's talent at club level brought him to the attention of the Cork inter-county selectors. He subsequently went on to join various county underage teams and he won under-14 and under-16 hurling honours with his native-county. Ronan later joined the Cork minor and under-21 hurling teams. He won a Munster medal in the under-21 grade in 1998 and later collected an All-Ireland medal following a victory over Galway.

In 1999 Ronan joined the Cork senior panel and won his first senior Munster title. He later added a senior All-Ireland medal to his collection following Cork's victory over KIlkenny in the championship decider. The next few years proved to be difficult for Ronan. He was substituted in Cork's first championship game in 2000 and came on as a late substitute in the team's opening game in 2001. Worse was to come as he was confined to the substitutes bench for 2002 and 2003. In 2004 Ronan spent the year living and working in Australia, however, he returned to the Cork team in 2005. That year he won a second Munster title before later winning a second All-Ireland medal following a victory over Galway in the final. 2006 was also a good year for Ronan. He won a third MUnster title and earned a name for himself as an impact substitute before starting for the team in the All-Ireland series of games against Limerick and Waterford. Unfortunately, Cork were later defeated by Kilkenny ion the All-Ireland final.

In the drawn 2007 All-Ireland quarter final against Waterford he scored two goals, one from a penalty and the other from play. He was stretchered off in the replay.
