Neil Ashton (born 15 April 1985 in Liverpool) is an English footballer who currently plays for League Two club Macclesfield Town, on loan from Shrewsbury Town. He typically plays as left-back, but occasionally acts as a midfielder. He wears the number 3 shirt for the club.
He began his career as a trainee with Tranmere Rovers, but made only one substitute appearance for the club before he joined Shrewsbury on loan in December 2004. In mid-2005 the loan was made permanent. In July 2007 he signed a new two-year contract, keeping him with the Shrews until at least summer 2009.[1] He has made more than 120 appearances for the club, and scored three goals.
On 10 January 2008 it was announced that Ashton, along with fellow Shrewsbury player Michael Symes, had been sent out on loan to Macclesfield until the end of the season.[2]
He is dating the current Miss Liverpool[citation needed], Natalie Daly and they got engaged in the summer of 2006 in the Dominican Republic.
