Nehal is an Indian name most popular in the western state of Gujarat. It's a unisex name, meaning "rainy" or "handsome" or "love".

It's also a Persian and Middle Eastern name which metaphorically refers to the personal attributes of beauty and youth and which, in its literal form, means "little tree".

Nehalis also a name of a beautiful girl known to have changed the history of the VIjayanagara empire durng 1406. Born to a farmer or goldsmith living in a place called Mudkalnear Raichur belonging to the regime ruled by the Muslim king Firoze khan in South India, she was supposedly so beatiful that a brahmin who was returning from his piligrimage from Kashi stayed in her family for a year and trained her in music and dance. Later he carried the message of her being so wonderully beautiful to the King Devaraya at Hampi, the capital of Vijayanagara, the famous empire in South India during 1336 to 1565. Having heard the king desired to have her as his queen. She however refused the offer and the enraged king invaded in to the muslim kingdom with a force of 5000 knights with the intention of kidnappin her. But he only to found the abondoned village and the army returned with loot and damage on the way. Irked by this act of Devaraya, Firoze Khan attacked Devaraya and brouhgt on untold misery to the common people around the capitol Hampi. Devaraya eventually submitted and agree to offer his young daughter to Firoze Khan in marriage. Firoze Khan later summoned Nehala, also called Perthal to his eldest son Hasan Khan who was a weak person. Nehal's life thus finds a tragic end.
