[edit] Underworld Discography Project
Hey man, I think we should strive to have fewer individual articles for the sake of simplicity. I think one article on Cowgirl is sufficient, and in it we can include data for all releases, including the 2000 reissue. This way if a reader is interested in reading about Underworld's Cowgirl singles, he only has to go to one article (instead of 2 or more slightly different ones). This goes for future yet-to-be-written articles, like the massive Born Slippy .NUXX, which should be all-inclusive and contain a .NUXX 2003 section.
Another thing is the Beaucoup Fish singles -- I'm not sure how to organize that, but for now I went ahead and moved it to Underworld Singles Box Set to clarify its origins.
One more thing; do we want to categorize Underworld Tokyo 2005 as an album? It saw very limited release, and its official-ness is debatable. Maybe we should instead stick it in a Live: section on the template?
Great work on your contributions though, with your help this may be completed a lot faster than I'd anticipated. :-) Ethan 23:19, 18 June 2006 (UTC) 20:56, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- hey ethan, my thoughts on a couple of things..
- 1. simplicity. i thought the whole point of this was to be descriptive and accurate, i'm tired of looking at sites that lump everything together...if a person is interested enough they'll look up the other info..if they want all the info about one thing, they should look it up on matts site. also, i have it broken down by release date in my database, and it gets messed up when you include them all together.
- 2. box set. i dont know how to separate out box sets, i checked out depeche mode (which didn't have them), and duran duran which did, but it wasn't very helpful either..not sure.
- 3. tokyo 2005. if this isn't official, i don't know what is, since they sold it at their concerts and online, to me it is as official as 'everything, everything'. i don't want to touch live albums/bootlegs, because that's a whole gigantic mess on its own..
- i just want to put basic templates for the uwMK2 singles and stuff because that's what i know most about.. any kind of meta-combining of the information makes it rather useless to me. (but then i'm looking at it from a database perspective).. is matt joining in on this? we could use some more ideas..
- thanx for the comments...i'm new to wikipedia, and still don't trust it yet. (and haven't figured out the tags/etc)..
[edit] License tagging for Image:Uw-live tokyo covera.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Uw-live tokyo covera.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] On the topic of wikilinking
Hello there, and thanks for the comment. I tried not to make the reversion of your edits seem malicious in any way, and it was based on a previous removal of the links to the albums in the singles section. Please see WP:CONTEXT for information regarding when and when not to wikilink. In the first section titled "What should not be linked", the third bullet states:
- Avoid duplicate links on a page. Redundant links clutter up the page and make future maintenance harder. However, link the first occurrence of a term, and always link when directing to a page for more information...It is not uncommon to repeat a link that had last appeared much earlier in the article, but there's hardly ever a reason to link the same term twice in the same section.
Now, there are several different ways one could read into this, because of the last caveat that it's not uncommon to repeat links. It seems to me, and seemed to the past editor that originally removed the links from that section (that may have been back when the discography was still on the band's main page as well) that links to the albums are unnecessary in the singles table, when the links already exist in the album table higher on the page.
In any case, if such wikilinking were to occur (which I, again, disagree with, but others may not), each album should only be linked once in the table. I'm trying to find the discussion regarding music tables that I'm almost positive reached some sort of conclusion on this topic, but have not been able to yet (I'll let you know when I do).
Thanks. John5008 | talk to me 05:31, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Just a few more notes after doing a bit more research on the topic.
- 1) I tried to find the point where the wikilinks were first removed from the table, and found that they were never included in the first place (so no such edit occurred). However, I interpret this as the original creator of the table (it was first organized in that manner in October of 2005, on the Depeche Mode page) holding the same opinion on the the necessity of those links as I do.
- 2) I also tried to find the conclusion that I was "almost positive" about and came to realize that it probably doesn't exist either (teaches me to make assumptions I guess...). However, if you look through Category:Discographies, I think you'll find that most of the larger, more cared for pages in the category do not wikilink all of the albums in the singles table.
- I'm sort of just arguing this on the basis of tradition and consistency at this point. I just feel that since the links to the albums are just a slight bit higher on the page, including them again in the singles table diminishes from the attention focused on the links to the singles.
