‘Sangita Kalanidhi’ Dr. Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, a famous Carnatic vocalist, was born on October 10, 1927 in Kottapalli, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, to Sri Rama Murthy Panthulu and Smt.Vijayalakshmi. He joined the Maharaja’s Music College at Vizianagaram in the year 1940 and received initial training in Violin and Vocal from the Late Sri.Dwaram Narasinga Rao Naidu. In the year 1949 he came under the influence of the great master ‘Sangita Kalanidhi’ ‘Padmabhushan’ Dr.Sripada Pinakapani, and under his guidance developed a style of his own, followed now by many.

He worked as Principal of S.V.College of Music and Dance, Tirupati; M.R.Government College of Music and Dance, Vizianagaram; Government College of Music and Dance, Secunderabad; and retired as Principal of G.V.R Government College of Music and Dance, Vijayawada in 1985. He was Dean of Faculty of the Fine Arts and Chairman of Board of Studies in Music of Sri Venkateswara University and Nagarjuna University.

The Krishna Gana Sabha, Madras, conferred on ‘Nedunuri’ with the title “Sangeetha Choodamani” in the year 1976. The Music Academy, Madras conferred on him the most prestigious title of “Sangita Kalanidhi” in the year 1991. He has been appointed as the ‘Asthana Vidwan’ of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams and also of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.

His awards include the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Sangeetha Kalanidhi, and the Raja-Lakshmi Award in 2002.
