Nedim Kufi

Nedim Kufi is an Iraqi artist, he was born in Baghdad, 1962. He has studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Baghdad, at the European Ceramic Work Centre in the Netherlands and Graphic Design at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht. He works with mixed media, from paper and flowers to earth and ceramics, in order to develop a close relationship between the disciplines of printing and etching, sculpture, and design. In his frequent use of grids in his artwork, Nedim Kufi draws on the Islamic tradition of repetition and patterning. Between 2004 and 2005 Kufi published 16 issues of an on-line culture diary Daftar, meaning an artist’s notebook in Arabic, containing essays, translated articles and other artistic projects. Nedim Kufi lives in Cairo and Amersfoort.
