NedWeb

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NedWeb project is a cultural documentation centre, with an online database, an initiative of the Department of Dutch Language Studies ("Netherlandistics") at the University of Vienna.

It contains documentation on Dutch literature, Dutch language and Dutch culture. Its aim is to promote literature and a broader public understanding of Dutch and Flemish culture.

It also offers information on the literature and culture of other language groups of interest to academics and students of Dutch Language Studies, for example on Czech literature, based on the cultural relations since (at least) the times of Comenius, after whom also the association Comenius – Vereniging voor Neerlandistiek in Midden- en Oost-Europa is named.

The NedWeb project started with the documentation of Dutch literature abroad, initially with bibliographic material and secondary text material translated into German, financed by the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, and the Flemish government.

The financial support of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Dutch Language Union made possible the development of the documentation centre since 1997 into a broader online documentation system.
