Found mostly on the posterior hard palate, is due to necrosis of minor salivary glands due to trauma (often palatal infiltrations of local anaesthetic or trauma during intubation).
Often painless, condition is self limiting and should resolve in 6-10 weeks.

Differentiation between this and SCC would be based on a history of recent trauma or dental treatment in the area.
