Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council is the local governing body for Neath Port Talbot. It is currently controlled by the Labour party, under the Leadership of Labour leader Cllr. Derek Vaughan.

Elections take place every four years. The last election was 1 May 2008.[1]

Neath Port Talbot is a staunch Labour stronghold. Labour have been in power in Neath Port Talbot since 1995.[2]

The mayor for Neath Port Talbot for 2007/2008 is Cllr. A. Taylor and the deputy Mayor is Cllr M.B. Gunter.

The county borough is divided into 42 electoral wards returning a total of 64 councillors. Some of these wards are coterminous with communities (parishes) of the same name.
