Neal Horgan is a professional footballer for Cork City in the Republic of Ireland's FAI Premier Division.
[edit] Youths and Schoolboy success
Neal has won three Munster Schools Senior soccer titles with his secondary school Colaiste Spioraid Naomh, in Bishopstown, County Cork. He also received two Munster Youth Cup winners medals with Wilton for his part in a very successful team. Following this success, Horgan represented his college and his country at the World University Games. He signed for Cork City and competed with Alan Carey for the right fullback position.
[edit] Cork City F.C.
Following Carey's fall from Pat Dolan's favour, Horgan made the position his own and was on a distinguished course before an unfortunate fracture of the leg occurred in April 2004 during a Munster derby against rivals Waterford United, ruling him out of Cork City's successful UEFA Inter-Toto Cup campaign, with then under-21 level prospect Cillian Lordan deputising well. Neal recovered ahead of schedule to reclaim his place as the season came to a close.
A vital and consistent part of Cork City's eircom League winning campaign in 2005, Horgan also found time to complete a Law degree in 2006. During the following Winter off-season (January 2007) Neal investigated the possibility of pursuing this career in the U.S., participating in a pre-season camp in Mexico with Colorado Rapids before opting to return to Cork City for the start of the 2007 campaign.
[edit] Trivia
- Neal is a citizen of the United States and would be eligible to represent them at international level.
