[edit] About Nea Penteli

The area around Nea Penteli are made up of residential areas, parts of Nea Penteli and the northern part are made up of forests. The area used to be made up of farmlands that were mainly pastures or groves. Suburban housing arrived in the 1970s and continued slowly in the 2000s. Nea Penteli has few schools, lyceums, a gymnasium, banks and a few squares (plateies). At the center of the municipality is a small hill named Profitis Ilias, after the small church on top of it. The view of Athens from this hilltop is fantastic. At the southeastern side of the church is the Neopendelikos football field constructed on top of a small lake named "Thalossi" or "Vourlida". The lake was land-filled between 1970 and 1980. Many of the earlier citizens of Nea Penteli are quarry workers that came in the area from the islands of Paros and Naxos during the 1950s and 1960s to work in the marble quarries of Penteli.

Nea Penteli was partially hit by a forest fire (see also 2007 wildfires in Greece) on Thursday August 16, 2007 and consumed some forests and weeds. Several firefighters and helicopters battled the blaze and lasted for hours. Not as much properties were damaged. The fire entered during the late afternoon hours from Penteli. The cause was arson. The flames were seen over the community for hours.
