From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello Ncik, and welcome to Wikipedia if you are new here. I wanted to contact you because I do not understand the reasoning behind your edit of Stone-Weierstrass theorem. The previous version says that the Weierstrass approximation theorem states

Suppose f is a continuous real-valued function defined on the interval [a,b]. For every ε>0, there exists a polynomial function p with real coefficients such that for all x in [a,b], we have |f(x) - p(x)| < ε.

and you changed this in

Suppose f is a continuous complex-valued function defined on the interval [a,b]. For every ε>0, there exists a polynomial function p over C with real coefficients such that for all x in [a,b], we have |f(x) - p(x)| < ε.

As far as I remember, I have never seen your version. I think it is correct, but it does not add much to the real version. Furthermore, what does it mean that p is over C? I would be grateful if you could explain this to me. Do not hesitate to contact me on my talk page if you have any questions. Cheers, Jitse Niesen 20:59, 24 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] polynomial

Hi. I have noticed you separated the definition of norm_(mathematics) and normed vector space. I think this was a good move and I thought about doing it myself sooner or later. On the other hand I do not like your edits on the definition of polynomial. You made the definition too complicated for most people. An article like polynomials should be accessible to a wide range of people so it is better to give a simple and concrete definition first and later on provide a more abstract definition in another paragraph.MathMartin 13:45, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Torture

Hi, I noticed you reverted my change to the torture article. You said in your edit summary that I should put it in an article on the Professor. I don't think this is a good suggestion as the professor probably isn't notable enough to have his own article, and the paper was written by 2 professors, so should they both have articles with the same content? I am going to revert it back, and I would like it to be discussed on the talk page before it is removed again, as is the proper thing to do. I would like to know what other opinions are. It may be better somewhere else, say in a "legalising torture" article or something, but I felt when I added it that it is good to show that aspect of the issue for neutrality. [edit] Dedekind sum

Hi,

On the 21st of November 2005, it looks like you added several incorrect formulas to the article Dedekind sum. Can you please review these edits, and discuss them at Talk:Dedekind sum? linas 18:21, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Never mind, I apologize for the accusative tone, both I and the other fellow made two different types of errors. However, you may still want to review the results. linas 21:16, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden

Hi Ncik,

I noticed you recently created the article about the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. I just wanted to inform you that you can post any new Germany-related articles at Portal:Germany/New article announcements and Portal:Germany/New articles. Happy editing--CarabinieriTTaallkk 11:40, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Germany

Hi Ncik,

User:Badbilltucker has proposed creating a WikiProject for articles related to Germany. Since you seem to contribute to Germany-related articles, I was wondering if you would be interested in helping with this project. If you want to know more about the proposal you can check the temporary project page or the List of proposed projects.--CarabinieriTTaallkk 10:43, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
