Nazand Begikhani

Nazand Begikhani (born 1964) is a contemporary Kurdish writer, poet and researcher.

Nazand Begikhani was born in Koya in Iraqi Kurdistan and has been living in exile since 1987 when she sought refugee status in Denmark. She received her PhD in comparative literature from Sorbonne, and published her first collection of poems in 1995. She has also translated works of Baudelaire and T. S. Eliot into Kurdish. Her translations into English have been published by the Poetry Magazine in the United Kingdom. She is also an active advocate for women's rights and is the founding member of Kurdish Women Action against Honour Killing (KWAHK). She has worked with Kurdish Institute of Paris and Kurdish Cultural Centre in London.
