Nayar (Khatri)

Nayar (also spelled Nayyar is a surname for some people from Punjab
They are mainly Khatris belonging to the Sareen sub-group. Some say they really are Nijjars (same as sikh jat)as said in village folklore and are a khatri subclan presently. The origin of the word is from Sanskrit Nayaka, meaning "Ruler".
