The village of Nawzad is the center of Nawzad District in Helmand Province, Afghanistan and is located on at 1221 m altitude.
British soldiers stationned there since 2006 as part of ISAF gave the town the nickname of "apocalypse nawzad" in light of the heavy fighting they faced and in reference to vietnam war film Apocalypse now. A wall of the compound the soldiers were based in had "Welcome to Apocalyspe Nawzad" painted on its side.
