Nawalapitiya

Nawalapitiya is a town in the hill country of Sri Lanka. It is in the Kandy administrative district, 38 kilometers away from Kandy. The town is near the Mahaweli Ganga. Nawalapitiya is the main town of the Nawalapitiya electorate and is one of the two municipal councils in the Kandy District. Nawalapitiya holds a special place in locomotive transportation in Sri Lanka since it is one of the three controllers in the same. Nawalapitiya Railway station is the second longest station in Sri Lanka, The first one is Nanu-oya.

Travel information : One can reach Nawalapitiya by Bus or Train. From Colombo there are few direct buses to Nawalapitiya from the Petta Bus station. Some busses travel via Peradeniya(Kandy) and others via Avissawella. Direct busses to Nawalapitiya from colombo is not a frequent service. Other option is to travel via Kandy. one can get a bus to Kandy from petta very easily. both Air conditioned and normal buses run frequently. from kandy one has to get the bus No.725 to Nawalapitiya (1 hour ride). there is a frequent bus service from Kandy to Nawalapitiya.

Next option is to travel by train. from petta one can catch the Badulla train to Nawalapitiya. The train trip can be slow but one can enjoy the scenery.
