Navy League Cadet Corps (Canada)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Navy League of Canada created the Navy League Cadet Corps (or Corps de cadets de la Ligue navale) for young boys in 1948, and the Navy League Wrennettes[1] for girls in 1950. There are no longer any Wrennettes in existence in Canada, and the Navy League Cadet Corps are now open for boys and girls between the ages of 9 to 12.
The Navy League Cadet Programme is not part of the Canadian Cadet Movement and is not sponsored by the Department of National Defence, as opposed to the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. Therefore, the total responsibility of the Navy League Cadet Programme is in the hand of Navy League Officers and local branches of the Navy League of Canada. Both officers and branch members are volunteers, who willingly give their time towards this programme.
The training programme of the Navy League Cadets is based on that of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, however, modified to serve the needs of this age group.

[edit] Uniform
The uniform worn by the Navy League cadets are somewhat based on that of the Royal Canadian Navy, however modified for these cadets. The uniform parts for the Navy League Cadets include:
- Naval cap (white-top)
- Navy blue long-sleeve shirt
- Lanyard
- White plastic web belt
- Bell-bottom navy blue trousers
- Black shoes or boots
- Cap Tally which includes the cadet corp name
[edit] Flag
This flag is used by Navy League Cadet Corps as the Jack flag. It replaced the flag of the Navy League of Canada for this purpose in 2000. |
[edit] Ranks
The ranks of the Navy League cadets are based on those of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets which were based on those of the Royal Canadian Navy. The ranks include:
- New Entry (NE)
- Ordinary Cadet (OC)
- Able Cadet (AC)
- Leading Cadet (LC)
- Petty Officer Second Class (PO2)
- Petty Officer First Class (PO1)
- Chief Petty Officer Second Class (CPO2)
- Chief Petty Officer First Class (CPO1)
When A Navy League Cadet, who holds the rank of Petty Officer first class or above, decides to transfer to Sea Cadets, they may write their Able Cadet test immediately after they are registered with the corps. Therefore, a Navy Leage cadet who holds the rank a Cheif Petty Officer First Class is the equivalent to an Able Cadet in Sea Cadets
Unlike the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets, a cadet who holds the rank the Petty Officer second class or above in Navy League, does not hold Non Commissioned Member Status.
