Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Indore is a part of Navodaya Vidyalaya Family in India. It is located in Manpur, about 45 kilometres from the city of Indore.

Established in 1987, under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme, the school is CBSE affiliated, co-educational and residential. The school campus also includes a Kothi, which is more than 180 years old.

[edit] Characteristics

The campus is about 30 acres. All expenses including boarding, school uniforms, messing and education etc are funded by central government. The school has Deputy magistrate(collector) of Indore, as a chairman. The Principal, the teachers and all staff are recruited by the Samiti.

The School has well equipped Labs. The school was one of the schools selected for launching Project Vidya by Intel. It has a modern computer lab. There is also a Gym, Library with more than 10,000 books, an Indoor Sports Room, an Arts Room. There is a central mess, with two dining halls, one for boys, and other for girls. There is a multipurpose playground, and a separate Kho Kho ground.

There are 4 boys hostels, and two girls hostels. There are 3 houses, Aravali, Nilgiri and Shivalik. All staffs reside in the campus itself. For each house, there are two house masters, one for juniors, and one for seniors. The juniors are kept away from seniors.

The campus life is very enjoyable, and comprises a memorable part of one's life. The students live all on themselves, they are used to handle day to day difficulties and problems early in their life. The teachers are well qualified, though not all teaches well. The results are satisfactory in the board exams, though sometimes terrible.

The school is lagged in competitive exams. Very few students make it to engineers and doctors. The IITians from school till now are Jeevan Singh, Bhupendra Ghotwal, Rajbhan Singh ,Deepak Arya and Gopal Lal, with Gopal Lal as highest JEE rank of 142 in 2005. The highest percentage in XII board exams till now is of Gopal Lal.also qualified in mppsc(civil services exams)Rakesh damar. Some of the student also got selected in the other premier institute like NITIE (Gaurav Verma).
