Navapur is a town of about 30,000 people in the district of Nandurbar, in the state of Maharashtra, India. It and 19 surrounding villages were quarantined in 2006 due to avian influenza.
It is last place of Maharashtra on Maharashtra-Gujrat border.Situated on the national highway no.6. The people here are having mixed cultures of Hindu,muslim and adivasi. Different languages spoken are Aadivasi, Marathi, Gujrati, Airani and Gujar. This small town in nandurbar district gave two ministers to Republic of India. First is Mr. Manikraoji Gavit he served for continueous seven full five years terms as Member of parliament of India. He holds the office of Minister of State for Home affairs, New Delhi. Second is Mr. Surupsingji Naik. Surupsinghji too served seven full terms as Minister of Environment & Forests for Government of Maharashtra. Both the ministers are proud of Navapur town. There is oldest medical shop named "Gujrat Mediacal Stores" in Light Bazar of the town. It was established by Mr. Madhukar Madhavrao Chaughule in 1954. He is the first pharmacist in the town and a seniour citizen too! Gujrat Medical is the first medical in town. There are famous doctors in Navapur 1)Dr.Mohanbhai S patel 2)Dr. Bhandarkar 3)Dr.g.m.Valvi 4)Dr.Sandip Patil. The current ST depot manager of the Navapur town is Mr.Mukunda Kuvar. The most popular schools in the town are "Shri Shivaji Highschool" and "Gujarathi Highschool". These schools have produced one of the best students through out its history. The town has a very old temple of Shri Dattatreya, it could be around 150 years old. Navapur is surrounded by the river "Rangaavali". The town has a very good water and sewage systems. The train station is about 2 km away from the heart of the town. Saturday is the "Market Day" in Navapur where all the people from surrounding towns come to visit and shop in the main market. Navapur is an area which is surrounded by forest. It is having dense forest and mountain ranges which are still having many animals.
