AWM caption : "Estcourt, South Africa. c. 1900. Sailors, possibly from HMS Philomel, during drill with a 12 pound naval gun mounted on wheels. They were members of the British Naval Brigade serving in the Natal area. (Original album housed in AWM Archive Store)"
Comment : The gun is a QF 12 pounder 12 cwt naval gun on improvised field carriages.
